Ivy Tech holds Meals on Wheels Gala



The eighth annual Dine with the Chefs Meals On Wheels Gala is set to take place Sunday, March 8 at Avalon Manor in Merrillville. Culinary students from Ivy Tech’s East Chicago De La Garza, Gary and Michigan City campuses will prepare and serve appetizers during the silent auction preceding the event. “We make it a point to help out each year with the fundraiser in support of raising money for Meals On Wheels,” commented Chef Terry Zych, hospitality program chair at the Michigan City campus. “It is our pleasure to be able to offer such an opportunity to our local culinary students. 

They not only have an opportunity for ‘real life experiences’ they also realize the importance of giving of their time and talents to help those in need,” said, Tula Gogolak, Director of Community Relations and Development Meals On Wheels.

The chefs preparing the meal include: Chef Glennard Brooks, ACF (Merrillville Hilton Gardens); Chef Scott Farrell and Chef Frank Zipco, ACF (Briar Ridge Country Club); Chef Jim Galligan and Chef Jason Schroeder, ACF (Long Beach Country Club); Chef Mark Kolasa (Café Elite and Catering); Chef Nico Luna, CEC, ACF (Villa De Bruno); Chef Tulu Merkel, ACF (Giovanni’s Restaurant); Chef Jack Mix, ACF (Comforts Catering); Chef Cheryl Molenda, ACF (The Inn at Aberdeen); Chef Thomas Spoor and Chef Jose Zapata (Horseshoe Casino); Jeremy Storey CC (Avalon Manor);Chef Joe Trama, CEC, ACF (Center for Visual & Performing Arts), Ivy Tech Community College Northwest); Chef Terry Zych, ACF (Ivy Tech Community College Northwest); Chef Elida Abeyta, ACF (Ivy Tech Community College Northwest); Chef Rick Delby, ACF (Ivy Tech Community College Northwest). The gala is dedicated to the people fed, the work accomplished and the communities served. Proceeds benefit Meals On Wheels and their mission to feed those in need.
